The Frequency Dilemma
'How often should I hit send?' is the most common question among new newsletter operators. Send too rarely, and your audience forgets who you are (leading to spam complaints when you finally do email them). Send too frequently, and you burn them out, driving up unsubscribe rates.
The Golden Rule of Frequency
You should send exactly as often as you can produce exceptional quality without burning yourself out.
Evaluating the Cadences
- Daily: Requires a massive operational engine. Best for short-form curation, daily news briefings, or daily motivational quotes. Highest revenue potential via ads, but highest churn risk.
- 2-3x Weekly: The sweet spot for fast-growing B2B media companies. Keeps the top-of-mind awareness high without requiring a full newsroom staff.
- Weekly: The ideal starting cadence for solo creators and long-form essayists (e.g., Sunday morning deep dives).
- Monthly: Generally discouraged unless it is a highly specialized internal company report. It’s too infrequent to build a habit with the reader.
